Three things that surprise people after merging
None of them is a fault. All three follow from what a PDF page is.
Order comes from the names
Files line up as they were sorted, and an alphabetical sort puts “attachment” before “contract”. A number at the start of the name settles it permanently.
Orientation stays
A landscape page placed among portrait ones stays landscape. The document does not unify page sizes; if you want a uniform look, fix the source before merging.
The task limit
A hundred megabytes and fifty files. A document made of scans reaches that threshold sooner than expected: one scanned page can outweigh a whole chapter of text.
What is done on the finished document
- Add page numbers so someone can refer to page eleven
- Add a watermark while the version is not final
- Delete or extract pages that got in by accident
- Split the document if it came out longer than the reader will take
